Firefox has a built-in feature that allows you to recover any previous session in case it should crash.  Internet Explorer doesn’t.  Why not?  I hate it when Internet Explorer hangs for some unknown reason and stupidly loses my current session including all the tabs I had previously open.  Instead of restarting itself with my previous session, it just sits there asking me if I would like to send a report to Microsoft informing them about this problem.  No wonder I have an ulcer!

Anyhow, as I was looking around for a way to restore my previous session in IE, I suddenly felt calmer.  Why?  Because of IEHistoryView, that’s why!  This is a free tool that lists all the URLs I have visited with Internet Explorer.  The data source for the list is the history index file which is automatically populated by IE each time that you type a URL in the address bar or click on a link inside the browser.  Check out the following screenshot for a peek of IEHistoryView in action.

The company behind this wonderful tool is NirSoft.  As stated in the company’s website:

This utility reads all information from the history file on your computer, and displays the list of all URLs that you have visited in the last few days. It also allows you to select one or more URL addresses, and then remove them from the history file or save them into text, HTML or XML file. In addition, you are allowed to view the visited URL list of other user profiles on your computer, and even access the visited URL list on a remote computer, as long as you have permission to access the history folder.

These guys also have some pretty interesting tools to offer, which I’ll definitively blog about…suddenly I have found my love for computers once again.  Now it’s my turn to fire back at IE…
